Transformations was created as a charity gala designed to support not-for-profit charities in our local community. The motivation that started this event, and continues today, is to embrace the diversity that Lawrence, Kansas is known for — coming together to support the needs of ALL people in its community.

At this red carpet event, local women are chosen and compete on behalf of a local charity of their choice. The competition includes real pageant components such as evening gown, talent, and on-stage questions. This fun-filled event, however, has a twist! Each competitor is paired with a female impersonator. The female impersonator (or “consultant,” if you will) assists in “transforming” their assigned competitor.

The consultants, along with the show’s host, Deja Brooks, start the competition with a fabulous opening number followed by pageant categories, allowing competitors to showcase their “transformed” beauty and talents. A panel of five judges scores the evening’s events. By this years event, Transformations will have brought increased awareness to 38 different charitable organizations within Lawrence and Douglas County. It also provides an opportunity for local businesses to partner with and be publicly recognized for supporting, strengthening and bolstering all charities involved.

The 2017 charitable organizations include:

“Transformations is a festive event that celebrates the work of charities through amateur talent, dedicated volunteers, and irreverent humor. It is a great opportunity for the community to come together and laugh in spite of the huge challenges that we face.” —Erika Dvorske, President/CEO for United Way of Douglas County

Brandon Eisman aka Deja Brooks

Brandon Eisman is no stranger to the stage. In 2005, Deja was crowned Kansas City Pride Queen, and has gone on to compete for the title of Miss Gay America and looks forward to returning to the pageant world in the near future, ultimately achieving the dream of becoming Miss Gay America!

Brandon has been involved with several charitable organizations, such as Daisy Bucket’s Kansas City AIDS Walk Calendar (2012, 2013, 2014) and the Douglas County AIDS Project, where he served on the board of directors, chaired the 2013 AIDS Walk and co-chaired the Red Ribbon Art Auction.

One of Brandon’s biggest accomplishments benefiting the community is that of Transformations, the unique Charity Gala.  Transformations Charity Gala is now in its sixth year and under the principal of Deja Brooks Presents. This event has raised thousands of dollars in the last five years, benefiting local charities.

One of Brandon’s goals is to transform the lives of our Lawrence community through culture and awareness.
