Composer and pianist Thomas Kotcheff’s compositions have been described as “truly beautiful and inspired” and “explosive.” As a new music pianist, Kotcheff has dedicated himself to commissioning and premiering new piano works. He has been a composition fellow at the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s National Composers Intensive, the Festival International d’Art Lyrique d’Aix-en-Provence and the Aspen Summer Music Festival, to name a few.
Kotcheff’s compositions have been performed internationally by The Riot Ensemble, wild Up, New York Youth Symphony, Sandbox Percussion, the Argus Quartet, the Lyris Quartet, the Alinde Quartett, USC Thornton Edge, The Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble and the Aspen Contemporary Ensemble, among others. He has received awards and honors from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, Presser Foundation, Aspen Summer Music Festival, BMI, ASCAP, New York Youth Symphony, National Association of Composers USA and the American Composers Forum. Kotcheff is also the pianist and founding member of the piano duo HOCKET, and he holds degrees in composition and piano performance from the Peabody Institute and the University of Southern California.
Kotcheff will be joined by the KU Percussion Group (KUPG), a nationally renowned chamber percussion ensemble dedicated to performances of new and classic percussion repertoire. Mobilizing percussion’s enormous sonic and stylistic breadth, KUPG presents invigorating performances of classic repertoire while collaborating with composers on groundbreaking new works.
